Kojo the Therapy Dog

20140422_152603Meet Kojo! Kojo (Japanese for “kindness”) is a Golden Retriever and Poodle mix, and he is in training to be a Therapy Dog. His breeding gives him a gentle, relaxed demeanor along with a coat that does not shed. Kojo is still a puppy and still in training, but if you would like him to participate in a session, you can help him learn how to be an expert therapy dog!

Interaction with therapy dogs has been shown to temporarily increase the neurotransmitters oxytocin (associated with bonding and trust) and dopamine (associated with reward and motivation) in clients and reduce cortisol (associated with stress), which can facilitate openness and engagement in session. If you would like these benefits in your session, please let me know, and I’ll bring Kojo in to join us.
